How Children Tend To Grasp
A child’s learning and development happens as a result of a particular set of challenges of the environment in which he or she lives. A child will learn if there is a genuine reason and a purpose to learn, if they are actively involved and we can achieve this by providing lots of activities involved and enquiry-based learning opportunities.
In children’s formative years they rather learn and grasp better in smaller groups than in a classroom setting.
0-2 years – Sensory and motor development happen at a rapid speed. A child learns through senses and experiences like shouting, banging, testing almost with every part of their body.
2 – 7 years – Many pre-operational results are seen in this phase. A child learns through verbal and social interactions. This is where the language development and numerical ability is developed.
7 -11 years – Concrete operations are developed by the brain and children focus more on details and raise questions. Logical reasoning, mastering through educational experiences, curiosity, travel, see and learn, data analysis are some methods they use.
11+ years – Detailed Operations are sought after as a method to grasp concepts. Abstract reasoning and thinking collectively develops at this stage. They ponder about justice and equality. They understand pain and power. They prepare themselves to serve the society.
Whenever learning takes place, the child starts from a position of existing knowledge and skill and reaches out to a level where he or she can perform the task using maximum effort. From there onwards unfolding a new and unestablished learning process.
All this has been recorded and noted from personal experience. Please use discretion in recording your own grasping milestones as this serves only as a guide and not a sure shot developmental process.
Happy learning and parenting with your child.
Until next time.
